How do I switch to another long distance carrier and/or discontinue my AT&T residential long distance service?

In order to discontinue your AT&T residential long distance service or switch to a new long distance carrier, you must take one of the following actions. If you do not follow one of the below actions, your AT&T residential long distance service will continue and you will be subject to any applicable AT&T rates and charges.

To discontinue your AT&T long distance service without switching to a different long distance carrier, please call AT&T at 1-800-222-0300 and let us know that you wish to discontinue your AT&T residential long distance service and that you do not wish to have any long distance carrier. AT&T will forward your request to your local service provider so that they can process your request.

To discontinue your AT&T residential long distance service and switch to a different long distance carrier, please contact your local phone service provider. Your local phone service provider will notify AT&T of your decision. If you choose, you can contact your new long distance carrier to let them know you would like to switch to their service. Your new long distance carrier will notify the local phone service provider of your decision.

Please Note: Local providers permit consumers to place "freezes" on their accounts to prevent unauthorized changes in their long distance service. If you have such a freeze on your account, you will have to ask your local provider to lift this restriction so that they can process your request to discontinue or change your long distance service.

If you wish to verify which company currently provides your long distance service, you can simply call 1-700-555-4141 from your home telephone, or contact your local telephone service provider.
